The Hi+Low Theory of Dressing

Monday, March 14th, 2011

Esquire takes us back to third grade with this awesome Venn Diagram—it shows us what we should spend our big bucks on and what we should penny pinch on. The idea for every outfit you should have at least one high-priced item and one low-priced item to get a balanced don’t-try-too-hard look. What do you think? What are your favorite items to skimp or splurge on??

Winterrrrrrr Clearrrrrrrrrrrance!

Friday, January 21st, 2011

“I got an email today from Express about their end of the season sale and when I think fashionable and frugal, I think you…as a curious follower, if you could offer insight into fashion standards or looks that will be safe bets on still being fashionable next winter (let along the rest of this one), it would be perfect for these sort of end of the season sales. Just a thought. Hope all is well (and warmer than here… -9° right now… can’t. get. warm.)” –E.J.

First as always, thanks for reading and thinking we’re frugal; flattery will get you everywhere (including into this blog post). Second, -9?? You need some serious warmth and there are luckily some good winter clearance sales going on right now. We recommend layering–start with a long sleeved shirt or button down, get a sweater or hoodie, grab a blazer over that and top it off with your quintessential winter jacket. If you’re still cold then, you should probably get a job at Columbia or Patagonia and get some free gear… Here are a few affordable collectibles for your long-term winter closet:

All Saints Spark Funnel on sale from $160 to $48!

Levi’s Capital E Navy Quilted Nylon Down Zip Vest on sale from $72 to $48.99

JOHN VARVATOS Hat on sale from $99 to $39

Herring Slim Fit Shirt on sale from $49.50 to $34.65

Remember, these are all sale items and could likely sell out quickly…so pick them up before their gone. If you’re looking for something in particular, e-mail us!

Words from a Life Coach

Friday, January 14th, 2011

LKc Style is a company that focuses a lot on how you look; but we are image consultants which encompasses how other people see you besides just your clothes. We encourage you to regularly consider who you are and how to make yourself even better. Often, we are asked to refer life coaches to our clients during the ReStyling process to make you an all-around well-balanced man! If you are considering a life coach, ask us for a referral. Here’s a first thought from a life coach friend for the day…

[A guest blog from Treva Smith at Spark To Fire Life Coaching]

When I look at the male population, I see quite a few different personalities, wonderful dreamers, humorous entertainer types and of course the grumpy left-their-half-empty-cup-at-home types (just a few of so many). I love just sitting and watching them. One thing I thought about during one of my “sit and sees” was how the mind sets of men have changed. In the fifties all the men were either in white t-shirts with packs of cigarettes rolled up into the sleeve or of course the nice pull over sweaters or suits and ties, and the labor class that never seemed to remove their work clothes. It was like they kinda ran in packs, trying to be a whole lot like the other guy. It seems to me that men now try to pick up a “look.” Some very fine looks in some cases, I feel inclined to say. Others maybe not so much. Men have changed a lot, I see them as more in tune with themselves and their partners in life, A lot of fathers spending time with their children, young men getting involved with their community. They are more apt to show their kinder side, men seem to be a more focused group to me these days. I really, really enjoy seeing these changes.

If I were to venture to make any suggestions to you, fellas; I think I would only say keep thinking. Keep your mind open, something that may not have worked for someone else may be a good look/direction for you. Our minds tend to give us a perspective to look in. If we limit ourselves to only that view we limit where we can go in our lives. Ask yourself if there is another way to look at this idea/challenge. Keep examining things like a diamond with its many facets. If you can look in at yourself in this way, you may discover another person under those clothes you’re wearing. Be adventurous in your own mind. Keep it up guys. You have our full attention.

Dress to Meet the Parents

Monday, January 18th, 2010

So, you have been dating So-and-So for a while now and whether you want to or not, she’s requested you meet her parents for a little “get-together.” So-and-So’s parents are probably nice enough but will still be judging you with hawk eyes. A few tips to meet Mr. & Mrs. So-and-So:
1. Don’t try too hard–unless you’re going to a formal dinner, a tie and/or suit in this situation might make you look stuffy. Leave the formalities at home.
2. Don’t look like the slob So-and-So met drunkenly at the bar last Saturday night–more than a t-shirt is required for this event. Don’t fret, you can still be comfortable.
3. Have a good handshake ready. Think Budwiser: not too heavy, not too light.

Gap Striped Thermal T $22.50

Gap Classic Ribbed Scarf $19.50

Lloyd Moto Jacket only $34.98!!

ReStyle: Casual James Bond in the Office

Thursday, January 7th, 2010

“Overall, I am very satisfied with your services. I have been eagerly wearing my new attire to work with pride. The remarks have been overwhelmingly positive…I appreciate your recommendations [of clothing] , but more so guidance on fashion sense, fitting styles, and clothing maintenance.” –Minnesota Client

LKc’s newest client works an office job, but was hoping to look more professional than his regular khaki routine–especially for client meetings. At the same time, he didn’t want to look inappropriately dressed up in a full suit either. The best route: choose GREAT high quality black and/or gray pants, then pick button-down shirts, ties, sweaters and jackets that all color coordinate in the same color palate to get the most bang for your buck!

THIS RESTYLE WAS DONE ALL VIA E-MAIL!!!!!!! LKc CAN DO PERSONAL SHOPPING, CLOSET CONSULTATIONS AND MAKEOVER VIA WEBCAM AND E-MAIL–WE TAKE CLIENTS FROM ANYWHERE!!
