Ted Mosby: Architect

Friday, July 30th, 2010

The lovable Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother is so charming…and that hair! But, Ted, lose the schluby college boy look. You are an architect. For real. At the very least, get rid of your undershirt that you can always see around your neck and the long-sleeve under short sleeve t-shirt look. I am not saying you always have to Suit Up, and there is nothing wrong with being a t-shirt and jeans guy, but pick up your game a little bit buddy. Maybe you’d meet Their Mother a little sooner….

If you like Ted’s look, but want to clean it up a little, here are some affordable choices:

Entourage: Ari in Gingham

Monday, July 19th, 2010

If you have been watching Entourage lately, you’ll notice Ari’s been rocking the gingham look lately…and rocking it well. Maybe it will really seal the deal in getting an NFL team to LA…then again, look at the Raiders…and the Rams…

Here’s a glimpse of a combo you saw in the last few episodes; I chose the blue instead of the purple in hopes that it might be an easier start for those of you shy to these particular patterns:

LeBron’s Miami Signing ESPN Interview

Thanks to the Possessionista for sending along her reader looking for the purple gingham buttondown shirt LeBron wore during his ESPN Miami signing interview. If you didn’t know (which seems impossible), shit’s going down on the NBA free agents front. Below is a close match to LeBron’s shirt from the other night, and please feel free to pass along other requests for any other dapper dressed recruits.

Contrast Collar & Cuff Shirts

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Thanks to my pal The Possessionista for sending over a reader who is looking for men’s dress shirts that have a different pattern on/in the cuff and collar similar to those seen on Cameron in the hit TV show Modern Family. As a brief education, these shirts are called “contrast collar” or “contrast cuff” shirts. These shirts are definitely not main stream and can often be difficult to find, especially if you are looking for something specific. You can often find contrast collar/cuff shirts with white collars and/or cuffs, but different patterns are always a unique find, although rather pricey. For the best affect, it’d be best to get a shirt tailored for your exact needs.  Here are some neat ones I found:

My friend The Possessionista sent me over a request from one of her loyal fans asking for some manly looks. Here’s what Lauren had to say: Know you’re a fan of Gossip Girl too and was wondering if you had any idea where the plaid buttondown shirts that Nate wore on the Gossip Girl finale are from? He looked adorable and I want to find them, or something similar, for my husband.                  Thanks so much :) Lauren

Lauren–Here’s some ideas to make your husband plaid-tastic (pair with a nice navy or brown blazer and some brown shoes for the BEST effect!!):

Button Down Shirts: Modern vs. Classic Fit

Wednesday, February 10th, 2010

An LKc client was recently making some online purchases and noticed many of the button down shirts indicated different “fits.” This might be confusing. Here’s a very quick run down:

CLASSIC FIT–also seen as Regular Fit, this shirt has a larger fit around the arms and waist; can be tailored to many sizes (i.e. you have larger biceps or a bit of a gut and might need some extra space). Purchase this kind of shirt to the biggest part of your body and then tailor in (have cloth removed) from your smaller areas. Often times you can find classic fit shirts that are very close to your size and might not need tailoring at all!

Alfani Dress Shirt Mocha Stripe $24.99

MODERN FIT–a pre-tailored fit around the arms and waist. You might also see this described as a European fit or simply as Fitted. These shirts come smaller under the arms and at the waist already. You’ll only need to get these tailored if you’re very picky or have an irregular size. Some might say this is trendy now, but LKc believes that a man should always wear shirts that fit HIM (regardless of trends)…that might mean classic, that might mean modern–try stuff on or give LKc Style a holler for more help!!
