NFL Draft 2011 Winners & Losers

Friday, April 29th, 2011

Blaine Gabbert gets an A+ for the Pocket Square and for the Potential to be in a Boy Band if this whole football thing doesn;t work out.

Cam Newton scores points for the nice Spread Collar even though he probably used illegal funds to buy it.

Julio Jones gets a ten point deduction for the high immense effort vs. success outcome ratio for color and pattern matching. Nice try with the bowtie though. Call us.

AJ Green how about a little color?? You just won draft pick #4–we can’t even see you in all that black. How about a nice camel color with that purple tie instead??

Patrick Peterson gets an honorable mention for somehow coordinating his outfit with his new team colors.

Brian Wilson, Nemo, & Double Breasted Jackets

Monday, January 31st, 2011

Have you been keeping track of Giants pitcher Brian Wilson?? If you haven’t seen him throw a pitch, maybe you’ve seen him up to his shenanigans lately including dress up days, S&M Canadian crosses, and a heck of a lot of late night show coverage. Start watching. In the mean time, get your self a mean double breasted navy sailor blazer!!

Jason Taylor, Helmet-to-Helmet Hits, & Pinstripes

Monday, October 25th, 2010

from NFL Total Access

Even if you don’t have 12-pack abs like Jet’s OLB Jason Taylor, that doesn’t mean you can’t suit up like him. We all know the NFL can be a little flashy when it comes to…well, everything, but, perhaps this is a slightly less 1920′s gangster pinstripe that you could try on your own. Try double breasted if you are a taller gentleman (these are coming back into style more and more…), or go with single-breasted if you are average or shorter man:

Why NCAA FB Coaches Aren’t Featured by LKc Style

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Don’t get us wrong, we love football season and everything that comes with it (although we seem to be missing that 2-story beer bong from college)…but we’re often asked about college football coaches and it seems to be that the coaches are just so in love with the game that they forget about the nuances of being seen on TV by millions of people every weekend. So, here are the top five reasons why college football coaches haven’t been featured on the LKc Style Blog (yet…):

#5: Polo Shirts–not something someone with authority should wear during their job. Note: if you are going to wear a polo shirt, at least make sure it fits, that the sleeves aren’t too long, the size isn’t too big, and that the gatorade stains will come out.
From SI.com

#4: Pleated Khaki Pants–we know you’re all old; but there is no excuse for this, especially when you’ve gained 45 pounds since your “glory days.”

From College Football Town

#3: Windbreaker Jackets–Save these for your retirement in Florida, boys.

From The matador

#2: Headsets Bigger Than Your Head–we love technology too, but these seem like overkill. We already know you’re the man in charge…you don’t need a “coach helmet” to show us that.

From ESPN

#1: General Baldness–this is not always a bad thing (right Bruce Willis?), but paired with #2-5 above, it’s a witches brew.

Go Ducks!

Lamar Odom Makes USA Men’s Basketball Team

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Via Dime Magazine

The Lakers big boy with an inconsistent past still makes the top-notch grade on the USA Men’s Basketball Team. Also, he’s married to a Kardashian, has his own signature fragrance on the way (along w/ his Rich Soil clothing line), and created a non-profit benefiting under-privileged children. Ahhhhhhh, the NBA life is a good one. But, if you’re super tall like Lamar where do you shop for clothes that fit? My guess is he gets all his red carpet and interview clothes custom made…but for the rest of us, here’s a more affordable option:

Remember, taller men can pull off 3-button suits and pant cuffs better than all their shorter friends…so live it up, Tall People.

An LKc friend shared this article that was ALL about basketball…which is great. But this blog is about men’s style…luckily, check out how rookie Johnny Flynn is dressed. Somewhere along the free-throw line, basketball stars went from ghetto-fabulous to prep-fabulous (and not just in the rookie ranks either–have you seen LaBron’s new sweater+glasses thing??). Here’s Flynn’s outfit at some affordable prices:

Street Smarts: Northwest + Hats

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

I found myself in the Northwest again recently and noticed the (necessary) love affair with these guys and their hats.  Hats can be an awesome addition to most outfits if appropriately matched. Consider these two Oregonians and their very different but stylish looks with hats:

2009.11.14_BlazeInPortlandBlaze in front of a cozy fire. Great outfit for day or night.

Nice crisp shirt w/ the sleeves rolled up just right.

2009.11.13_DucksGameGearing up for the game in something a little more casual.

But notice how the brown in the hat coordinates with the brown in the shirt.

David Beckham Kicks it in Cardigans

Fan e-mail forwarded from my friend The Possessionista: “I have an obsession with David Beckham!! I saw this sweater on him from the PEOPLE website and I want to buy it for my husband!! It looks so cozy!! Do you have any idea where it came from? Thanks so much! Smiles, Lesia”

Lesia–David Beckham makes me sweat a little too. LKc Style readers should take note as well…not for the sweats but for the sweaters. He’s been seen all over town(s) rocking some pretty nice sweaters and cardigans giving a whole new look to the old-man-next-door style. He’s been noted for wearing Scotch & Soda, Hugo Boss, and Abercrombie & Fitch lately. I haven’t been able to identify the exact chunky cardigan David’s wearing, but here are a couple of equally cozy alternatives:

Sausage Race!

Sausage Race!

I’ve had the pure luck of being at three baseball games in three different stadiums in under three weeks. That’s a lot of organ music in a short amount of time. Sporting events always seem like one of the only places to truly “let loose” and do/say/wear whatever the hell you want. Let’s discuss the “wear” part of that and I’ll leave you to the do/say part. Don’t get caught on the jumbo-tron looking like a sloppy mess!
