Up In The Air: Clooney’s Tie

Friday, January 8th, 2010

First, go see the movie Up In The Air starring George Clooney! It was brilliant, touching, sad, and (my favorite) sarcastically hilarious at just the right moments. But, this isn’t a movie review blog, it’s a men’s style blog, and thus, here is a similar blue and white polka-dotted tie seen throughout the film (polka dots aren’t just for girls with pigtails anymore; this is svelt and timeless):

J Crew Large Dot Tie in Navy on sale for $49.50

PS–I wouldn’t mind receiving the soundtrack to movie as a gift either! Whew.

An LKc friend shared this article that was ALL about basketball…which is great. But this blog is about men’s style…luckily, check out how rookie Johnny Flynn is dressed. Somewhere along the free-throw line, basketball stars went from ghetto-fabulous to prep-fabulous (and not just in the rookie ranks either–have you seen LaBron’s new sweater+glasses thing??). Here’s Flynn’s outfit at some affordable prices:

The Perfect V is not just for the Ducks anymore: Sweater Vests are Back!

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I finally got around to seeing 500 Days of Summer (well after Summer and all the hype of the movie).  The movie was an artistic and well-dressed version of real life: get your heart broken, chase your dreams, and always go karaoking  at least once a month. If you’re finding yourself grasping for a business casual look, especially for the upcoming frigid months, consider some V-neck sweaters and cardigans showcased in this all-to-relatable movie.

Save Laundry–wear it day and night!

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

If you have a low budget for your clothing, like most of us do, you may find it best to purchase clothes that are versatile for your lifestyle. A recent LKc Style client can now wear this black shirt / silver tie combo to a semi-formal event or even a date…take the tie off, untuck the shirt, roll up the sleeves and add some jeans and he’ll look good at the bar later in the evening! Any other budget saving ideas for versatility??

Gossip Girl Guys: Chuck

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

A female reader recently wrote to LKc Style:

“Hi! My boyfriend is obsessed with Chuck’s fashion…and none of the Gossip Girl blogs seem to write about it. Any tips about where to find his stylish numbers?–Thanks! (an old friend of the Possessionista)”

Old Friend–I won’t judge your boyfriend for being obsessed with the Gossip Girls…TV can be violently addicting…especially when it’s about good looking people with lots of money! Chuck is always very well and uniquely dressed but usually at a lofty price tag. Here’s a few of Chucks always-colorful looks at PBS prices:

Pic from Bright Young Things

express_argylesweatervestExpress Argyle Sweater $49

macys_clubroomestatepinpointClub Room PinPoint Buttondown @ Macy’s ONLY $10!!

The ideas= lots of color + always tailor your blazers and pants just for your body + add a bowtie when necessary + LOTS of argyle. Also go to Shop Gossip Girl to search looks by character–however, you’ll find much of the stuff is rather expensive! If you have any other specific looks /photos in mind, I’ll shop it on the afforadable circuit!! Let me know!

Street Smarts: Wedding Blues (and Grays)

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

Here’s Steven at a wedding I recently attended looking artfully disheveled in blues and grays after a full night of dancing …especially notice how he brought all the colors together in the tie.

It’s a Tie

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

A client is headed to a semi-casual wedding. He requested a suggestion on a coordinating shirt to go with a tie that was pre-chosen. Here’s what he sent me:

What would YOU choose? I chose the solid blue shirt. It’s a nice alternative to white but isn’t as distracting as some of the other striped shirts–the tie here should really be the focus piece because he’s dressing around it (this is only specific to this tie–other shirt and tie patterns can often times compliment each other nicely without clashing). Also, the solid blue compliments the blue in the tie best. I also suggested a solid green as an alternative for something more funky:

Old Navy Poplin $24

If you have coordinating questions like the one above, you can text or e-mail them in! I’m unrolling a CHEAP text/e-mail “Yay/Nay” service where you can get my instant advice on an outfit you’re considering or even trying on at the store!!
