Here’s a friendly employee at Crate & Barrel looking totally put together. If you work in retail, even if you have to wear a uniform to work, make sure you are clean with your shirt neatly tucked in and ready to help your customers. Especially if you work on commission, your image will affect your bottom line. Poll: if you work in retail would you rather wear a uniform or not and why?

I’ve worked retail both with, and without a uniform.
The only real plus side of a uniform, to me, is the lack of decision. Every day is the same, so it is one less thought while I get ready for work.
Unfortunately, I have a brain, and I’d rather be allowed to make the choice. It’s nice to have a little variety every day, and it’s even nicer to actually be able to adapt your clothes based on current weather.
If you dress yourself, your customers can see a bit more of your personality come out (for better, or worse). In the end, I think we’re all more productive when we’re comfortable and allowed to breathe a little more freely.
