Esquire Magazine Explains How To Wear Corduroy

Monday, August 23rd, 2010

Esquire Magazine handed out a smidge of info on corduroy for this Fall. LKc finds corduroy to be worn best casually, but can sometimes be dressed up if done appropriately. The best things to take away are
1. the finer the ribs (called wales) the dressier the corduroy, and
2. a thin man can wear fatter ribs and a larger man should wear finer ribs–you wouldn’t want to look like a big corduroy clown, now would you? The corduroys featured in Esquire were $220…here are some much more affordable alternatives all under $50:

GAP Straight Fit Corduroy Pants $49.50 (We like “Shark”, but all the colors here are nice)

Mossimo Corduroy Pant $24.99

More Trenchcoats

Friday, August 20th, 2010

“$150 is a great deal for a coat – I’ll have to check out Topman for that. I prefer the darker colored trenches since tan is such a bold color. Works well in California or in the spring but for the fall I love a dark brown / dark grey / dark navy trench instead.”

Thanks JP for reading (We love Topman and they usually have free shipping on everything too)! If you are looking for a darker color in a trechcoat or jacket instead of the tan we had previously posted about, try some of these affordable options:

Topman Navy Laundered Trench Coat $120

GAP Long Classic Coat $88

Topman Black Cropped Trench Coat $120

Ted Mosby: Architect

Friday, July 30th, 2010

The lovable Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother is so charming…and that hair! But, Ted, lose the schluby college boy look. You are an architect. For real. At the very least, get rid of your undershirt that you can always see around your neck and the long-sleeve under short sleeve t-shirt look. I am not saying you always have to Suit Up, and there is nothing wrong with being a t-shirt and jeans guy, but pick up your game a little bit buddy. Maybe you’d meet Their Mother a little sooner….

If you like Ted’s look, but want to clean it up a little, here are some affordable choices:

Gossip Girls: Nate Season 3 Finale

My friend The Possessionista sent me over a request from one of her loyal fans asking for some manly looks. Here’s what Lauren had to say: Know you’re a fan of Gossip Girl too and was wondering if you had any idea where the plaid buttondown shirts that Nate wore on the Gossip Girl finale are from? He looked adorable and I want to find them, or something similar, for my husband.                  Thanks so much :) Lauren

Lauren–Here’s some ideas to make your husband plaid-tastic (pair with a nice navy or brown blazer and some brown shoes for the BEST effect!!):

Old T-Shirts and Baggy Button Downs

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Here’s a new client–M.P.–before LKc Style. We had to weed out a lot of old t-shirts drawing the wrong kind of attention and drowning button downs. My favorite part of this closet consultation was M.P. telling me he organized his graphic t-shirts by most offensive to least offensive.

Below is M.P. after his personal shopping experience. He’s able to put together a combination of shirts and jackets to go more business for work or more casual for weekends. Looking svelt, ladies, no?!

M.P. said about the LKc Style experience, “it isn’t about getting a few new styles of clothing in your closet.  It is just as much about the education of shopping smart, if not more so…I know I”ll look really good when I go out…learning how to fold clothes for travel, what patterns to wear with other patterns, colors with colors, everything from my head to my toes, [LKc Style] covers all the essentials!” Get your own personalized LKc Style experience today!!!

Dress to Meet the Parents

Monday, January 18th, 2010

So, you have been dating So-and-So for a while now and whether you want to or not, she’s requested you meet her parents for a little “get-together.” So-and-So’s parents are probably nice enough but will still be judging you with hawk eyes. A few tips to meet Mr. & Mrs. So-and-So:
1. Don’t try too hard–unless you’re going to a formal dinner, a tie and/or suit in this situation might make you look stuffy. Leave the formalities at home.
2. Don’t look like the slob So-and-So met drunkenly at the bar last Saturday night–more than a t-shirt is required for this event. Don’t fret, you can still be comfortable.
3. Have a good handshake ready. Think Budwiser: not too heavy, not too light.

Gap Classic Ribbed Scarf $19.50

Boxers or Briefs?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

We all have our different underwear needs…some ladies needs apparently include having underwear purposefully fitted to go up their butt. Luckily, you are guys and (most of) you don’t have to worry about thongs…

There is though, and perhaps will always be, the question of boxers or briefs. There is not a right answer to this and is different for everyone. But you should consider a few factors before making boxer or brief purchases:
1. What will you be wearing over your underwear? If you’re wearing tighter fitting pants, you should think about closer fit boxers or briefs. You don’t want boxers to bunch and twist.
2. Will you be moving around or walking a lot? We all hate to think about it, and I’m blushing, but chafing is the worst. Consider briefs (and potentially some body glide for LOTS of movement) for these situations.
3. Will you be taking you pants off? Who’s going to see your undies?? Is it a girl or your doctor; I bet you’ll change depending on the answer.
4. Do you want solid or patterns? A more conservative man might wear solids only, but since they’re usually hidden, you can get away with a little fun underneath (unless your hot boss has x-ray vision glasses that sometimes see bones and sometimes see clothes).

I tend to like a lot of underwear from GAP,as far as fit, style and affordability, and have heard good reviews (all $12.50-14.50; click on the images to purchase):

Don’t forget to ALWAYS wash your underwear on the first wear…no cheating. This will prevent lots of things too gross to mention here, so just do it.
