Skip the Suit…How about Birthday SHOES?!!

Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011

“I had a question – my husband’s birthday is coming up and he wants some shoes that aren’t dress shoes but aren’t tennis shoes either. He’s very picky and I’m at a total loss. My budget would be around $100-$150. Do you have any thoughts on some shoes that would work well with jeans and a polo or a button down? Any suggestions would be appreciated, guy fashion is not my forte! Lol.” –Jen

Jen–even though it might be a total pain, it’s a great thing that your husband is picky! It means that he cares about how he looks and that he probably looks pretty good! We’ve learned over time that a guy that’s picky about his shoes is probably even pickier than most girls about their shoes. Here’s a few thoughts on some casual-non-sneaker shoes that we think would rock his socks off, pending his current style:

For the Trend-setting Man: Zappos Clarks – Wallabee Boot $140

For the Sunday-Funday Guy: J. Crew Sperry Top-Sider® Leather Chukka Boots $125

For the Manly-Man: Calvin Klein Jeans – Alex $109

Socks for Grown Ups…sort of

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

DID YOU KNOW: that you shouldn’t be wearing your white socks or sport socks with all of your shoes??? Keep those for the gym only. White and black socks don’t go with everything just like your black shoes don’t go with every outfit. Have a little fun. Try spicing up your sock drawer with a little more color, texture and warmth with some of these favorites:

Topman Burgundy Twist Socks $10

Revolve Clothing Richer Poorer Smith Sock $12

J. Crew Two-color Tipped Cotton Socks $12.50

Chunky Sweaters, Not Chunk from your Wallet

Friday, November 12th, 2010

Try out some warmth for the winter with some chunky sweaters!!! Unlike the $200-400 sweaters in T Magazine, you can bulk up without the cost and look just as good:

ASOS Religion Chunky Cable Knit Shawl Collar Sweater $77.58

Topman Navy Chunky Cowl Neck $70

Contrast Collar & Cuff Shirts

Friday, June 18th, 2010

Thanks to my pal The Possessionista for sending over a reader who is looking for men’s dress shirts that have a different pattern on/in the cuff and collar similar to those seen on Cameron in the hit TV show Modern Family. As a brief education, these shirts are called “contrast collar” or “contrast cuff” shirts. These shirts are definitely not main stream and can often be difficult to find, especially if you are looking for something specific. You can often find contrast collar/cuff shirts with white collars and/or cuffs, but different patterns are always a unique find, although rather pricey. For the best affect, it’d be best to get a shirt tailored for your exact needs.  Here are some neat ones I found:

Modus Coture $99; You have to be a real man to wear this.

My Shirt Shop (UK) on sale 39.99 Pounds

Robert Graham Strollin Large Paisley $159 at Neiman Marcus
